Ask Burton: Q: I had a beautiful bed of summer and fall color… until it froze last week. I’d like to put some things in now that they’re gone, am I too late?December 12, 2017
Ask Burton: Q: I have several ornamental grasses (pampas and maiden grasses) that are starting to go dormant now. Should I go ahead and cut those back now?December 5, 2017
Ask Burton: Q: Three of the 9 eastern red cedars we planted about a month ago have something on the tips of the branches. All 3 of them are in the same area. The rest of the tree is green and looks fine. This does not appear to be a disease to me, as all of these tan colored tips are pretty much uniform on the outer branches of the tree. The other 6 cedars do not have this (branches are 100% green – including tips of branches). What is happening to these 3 plants?November 21, 2017
Ask Burton: Q: I had an old sweetgum in my front yard that’s given up the ghost this year so we had it removed. I’d like an upright smaller tree to go in the yard now. The sweetgum almost had the shape I wanted, but it was still a little too big and the spiny seed pods were not a favorite! Our front yard is small and I’d like a small tree out there with that upright kind of shape, but something that would stay in the twenty foot range. I also don’t care for magnolias, as it feels like we’re always picking up leaves, so do you have any ideas for a smaller evergreen tree?November 8, 2017
Ask Burton: Q: I am changing out flowers in my flowerbeds and I’m seeing grubs! I saw at least five as I planted some pansies, and I don’t want them eating my new flowers. What should I do to get rid of them?October 24, 2017
