Planting time for fall tomatoes is upon us. Â Yes, we truly do have a second growing season here in North Texas.
So plant your tomatoes now!  There is a fairly short window of time to plant tomatoes so you can actually harvest a lot of them before the first freeze (which normally occurs in mid-November).  The current temperatures may seem too hot to be starting a fall crop of tomatoes, but planting now is necessary if you want to enjoy several weeks of a fall harvest. Tomatoes can be planted in your prepared garden, but if you don’t have a garden, they do very well in large pots. Add a couple of inches of mulch to help keep the soil a bit cooler and retain moisture longer, then water consistently so the soil never dries out. Be sure to fertilize regularly to keep your plants growing vigorously.
