Mulch now to help your plants….and it looks pretty too! November Gardening Tips
Ask Burton: The month of July certainly brings the heat, and it’s a challenge for newly planted shrubs, trees, and container plantings. So, this week, a simple heads up on watering – how to, how often, and simple things you can do to reduce the need for excessive watering.
Ask Burton: Today, we’re talking about fungus! Q: I have mushrooms and ugly looking fungus growing around my plants in the flowerbed. How do I get rid of these before they harm my plants?
Ask Burton: Q: This week, we’re looking at containers – with a lot of spring color wearing out in the heat, many people want to freshen up their patio and entryway show for the summer. Q: I had beautiful pots of petunias on my patio, and the past few weeks has made them give up. What can I plant right now that will really go through the heat and work in my containers?
Ask Burton: Q- I have an established Japanese maple which had its edges burned by the summer heat this year; also, several newly planted shrubs that also had small amounts of damage from drying out as well. I watered twice a week all summer; do I need to increase my watering now?
Ask Burton: Q: I have Japanese maples in a very shady spot; they’ve been planted for four years and have been beautiful. They’re showing a lot of burning around the leaves this year, and these plants are not new. We made sure to water everything carefully. Any idea why this is happening?
Ask Burton: Q: I have planted vegetable gardens in the past and I want to make this one as easy to maintain as possible. I don’t mind spending more time setting it up, but once I plant this time, I don’t want to fight Bermudagrass (and every other weed) – I want to water, occasionally fertilize, and get food. Can you help me get there?
