Ask Burton: Q: The leaves on my weeping redbud (pictured) are dry and the tree has started looking really bad. We just planted it in March. What do you think happened to it?
Ask Burton: Q: I want to grow cilantro, and it doesn’t like me. How can I do better with it? Mine always goes into flower, and withers.
Ask Burton: Q: I have a vegetable garden I put in a couple of years ago, and it’s pretty good, but I just can’t seem to get carrots to do what I want. Any carrots I grow are stubby or misshapen (and tougher than normal!), depending on whether they’re growing in my in-ground garden or my above-ground one. Any ideas to help?
Ask Burton: Q: I planted a windmill palm this year and I would like to know how to care for it during the winter.
Ask Burton: Q: I had a beautiful bed of summer and fall color… until it froze last week. I’d like to put some things in now that they’re gone, am I too late?
Ask Burton: Q: I have several ornamental grasses (pampas and maiden grasses) that are starting to go dormant now. Should I go ahead and cut those back now?
Ask Burton: Q: I am changing out flowers in my flowerbeds and I’m seeing grubs! I saw at least five as I planted some pansies, and I don’t want them eating my new flowers. What should I do to get rid of them?
Ask Burton: Q: I have several plants with leaf diseases on them right now, and I need to know what to do. My roses have some black spot, my honeysuckle is covered in powdery mildew, and my wax ligustrum had a bad case of some kind of leaf spot in the spring that I don’t want to come back. What should I do to all of these plants?
Ask Burton: Q: We live out in the country and would like to screen off our home from the road in front of the house. We don’t have a sprinkler system out there, but really want a screen of trees to break the noise and the sight line from the road. Any suggestions?
