Ask Burton: Q: I came home last night and saw two big branches had broken off my crape myrtle overhanging my back driveway. We had wind this week, but it just wasn’t severe. Any reason for this to be happening?
Ask Burton: Q: My crape myrtles are covered in a sticky mess, and there’s webs all over the plant. It looks awful! What’s going on, and how do I stop it?
Ask Burton: Q: My trees have suddenly been infested by caterpillars! I have a tree line of native pecans, and a month ago they were fine. Now, I have webbing all over, the leaves are being devoured, and there’s so many of the bugs that they’re falling off and going everywhere. What can I do to stop this?
Ask Burton: Q: I have a row of Eastern Red Cedar, and several of them are turning brown. What’s going on? My cedars have been bulletproof, to date.
Ask Burton: Q: Many leaves are falling off my trees and shrubs! After all of this rain, things should be looking better, right? Why did so many of my plants lose some leaves? Nothing’s dead, but some of my Magnolias have been thinned out, and there’s a litter of leaves around the base of my crape myrtles. What can I do to stop this?
Ask Burton: Q: I have a St. Augustine lawn which did not enjoy the drought this summer. The rain last week was wonderful! The turf is greening up nicely now, but there are patches of fresh growth that just seem a dull off-color, either light green or yellowing, not the rich green of the rest of the new growth. Should I fertilize?
Ask Burton: This week, we’re highlighting a plant that, in most cases, is blooming its heart out right now. Q: What ARE those beautiful shrubs covered in soft pink flowers I’m suddenly seeing? I’m seeing some gorgeous plants and two weeks ago, I didn’t notice them! Were those always there?
Ask Burton: Q: I’ve got a stringy pothos ivy, a peace lily whose leaf tips are blackened and browned, and the soil in many containers looks like mud and sticks. Most of the containers show a white ring around the base, and some of the soil shows what looks like white sandy bits on top. How do I fix these?
Ask Burton: Why are my plants struggling? I’m watering all the time.
Ask Burton: Q: I have planted a large bed of potato vine, and it’s growing crazy fast, but many of my leaves have small holes in them. How do I handle the problem?
