A beloved Texas native evergreen prized for its glossy, deep green compound foliage and dramatic springtime show of dangling, wisteria-like purple flower clusters with a distinctive grape-soda fragrance. Slow-growing but exceptionally tough once established, it thrives in the rocky, alkaline soils common across the Hill Country and North Texas and handles heat and drought with ease. Its dense, rounded form works beautifully as a specimen, screen, or patio tree, offering year-round structure and one of the most fragrant blooms in any DFW landscape.
