Venus Flytraps are undoubtedly one of the most exotic plants we know of! Nico thinks they resemble living creatures with mouths rather than simply looking like plants.
The thought of meat eating plants seems like something out of a sci-fi movie, but in this case it’s a fact…..Venus flytraps are truly carnivorous! Their traps (mouths) are lined with hundreds of little hairs, and if an insect triggers them, it will close up tight, trapping the insect. Once the insect dies, the trap starts to digest it with special enzymes that liquefy the insect. The nutrient-rich bug juice is then absorbed in to the leaf, providing the Venus Flytrap with plenty of nutrition.
We currently have Venus Flytraps in the Gift Shop and they are a perfect little gift, especially for the youngsters in your life who are so intrigued with these unusual plants. Come pick yours up today…It’s chow time!
