Plant of the Week – Desirable Pecan Trees

If you like eating pecans as snacks and baking pecan pie and other yummy dishes that include pecans, Desirable is a great tree to plant. They are fast growers that reach 60-80 feet tall and wide, so they can provide lots of shade as well as delicious nuts. Desirable is an early shedder with large, medium-soft shell nuts, and it’s considered a semi self-fertile pecan tree. This variety ripens in late October to early November.

Pecans, the state tree of Texas, need to be planted in well-drained areas with full sun exposure. We currently have Desirable Pecan trees in 7, 15 and 45 gallon containers and this is a great time to plant them.
