Designer Spotlight: Cindy Huddleston

Our Landscape Designer Spotlight falls on Cindy Huddleston, a North Texas native who joined our team in the fall of 2018. She brings over 15 years of landscaping experience, and a life-long love of plants and gardening with her. She developed this affinity at an early age, working in the flower beds of her childhood home and helping her family care for them. “I specifically recall my mother caring for the irises in our backyard and remembering how beautiful they were when blooming.”
Even with this background, Cindy didn’t go into landscape design as an adult right away. She spent many years working in finance before she recognized her true passion is helping people achieve their landscape dreams. Sometimes it takes years for a person to realize what they were born to do, but “If we’re lucky, we figure it out sooner rather than later.” So she started her landscape company, Watermark Gardens LLC, and said goodbye to the corporate world for good.
“I traded in my luxury sedan for a pickup truck, and my high heels and business suits for shorts and sneakers, and I couldn’t be happier,” she says.
After 15 years, she closed her business, and in the fall of 2018, Covington’s was thrilled to take Cindy on as a full-time landscape designer.
Although she is adept at many styles of landscape, she describes her niche as “Creating gardens that incorporate natural rock and boulders along with perennials and evergreens indigenous to our area, with a cottage-like feel”. She welcomes the challenges and complexities that come with redesigning an outdoor space, and tailors every garden and yard to her client’s specifications. Cindy is truly a perfectionist when it comes to her designs, and describes it as a double-edged sword: “Being a perfectionist can be a curse. That is what my customers like about me, although the crew could just kill me! I’m certain of it!”
Most importantly, though, Cindy listens to her clients, which is what she says is the key to anyone’s success. “It’s my job to get it right, and that can only happen by understanding the needs of the customer.” And understand, she does. Many of her clients are repeat customers, some of whom have even followed her from Watermark to Covington’s. Her unique style, knowledge of Texas plants, unparalleled work ethic, and attention to the needs of each individual client make her a designer Covington’s is proud to call a team member.
