David’s Plant Pick of the Week is the Marvel Mahonia, and not just because it sports the Covington’s Colors. This quirky evergreen looks like it’s straight out of a Dr. Seuss book! In addition to the toothy green leaves, the Marvel gets upright sprays of yellow blooms in early winter that turn into purple, waxy berries by summer. It’s great for shady yards, because, while it can withstand North Texas winters, it can not take full sun in our hot summers. It will mature at 6’ tall and 4’ wide, making a unique addition to your landscape that, like David, is sure to stand out in a crowd!
