Bad Bugs Beware: Ladybugs Are on the Job!

Looking for an organic way to control garden pests? Don’t worry ladybugs to the rescue!

Release ladybugs into your garden at dusk and let these little helpers get to work. They’re charming to us but terrifying to pests. Also called lady beetles or ladybird beetles, they’re natural predators of many harmful insects, especially aphids and other sap feeders. One ladybug can eat up to 5,000 aphids in its lifetime! Their larvae are just as hungry, feeding on soft-bodied pests like spider mites, aphids, and whiteflies. Because the larvae look different, people sometimes mistake them for plant pests—don’t be fooled.
