Ask Burton?

Q: We bought a new house with very little landscaping. We want to plant some trees and shrubs to make the house look prettier. Should we plant them now or wait until spring?

A: Winter is a great time to plant new trees and shrubs in North Texas! It’s better to plant during the cool season than in the spring or summer, so your plant roots will have time to establish before their first summer. The summer heat is more stressful for new trees and shrubs than the cold in our area. As a bonus, you’ll reduce the need for supplemental watering when planting in the wintertime because the weather is cooler, and we generally get an adequate amount of rainfall.
