This week, our article’s just to remind folks:
We’ve been extra rainy this spring, and relatively cool. It’s been wonderful! But June is coming, and every year, there’s one week – sometimes in May, sometimes in early June – when it seems as if, quite suddenly, you need to up your watering to the next level on new trees, shrubs, and flowers. One day, you’ll think, “Well, everything’s wet. It’s been raining, after all. Raining every week, in fact!” Which is true this year. But temperatures are already climbing to the nineties and soon even higher, and the irrigation that was sufficient throughout the spring won’t be, shortly.
Please make sure your automated sprinklers are in full working order and turned on at this point. Two good, solid waterings a week will help a lot on new plantings! Once the summer’s heat really starts turning the screws, occasional hose water in addition will help your new plantings do their best.
The spring’s been gentle, if a bit sloppy wet this year. Don’t let the summer heat sneak up on you and drought stress your plants.
