A standout Rose of Sharon prized for its rare, true-blue blooms with a soft red eye, flowering continuously from early summer into fall when few other shrubs are in bloom. Unlike older althea varieties, it sets few to no seeds, so it won’t self-sow a mess of unwanted seedlings around the yard, making it a tidier, lower-maintenance choice for beds, borders, and screens. Vigorous and easy to grow, it thrives in North Texas heat and humidity, tolerates a wide range of soils, and asks for little beyond an occasional shaping to keep its upright, multi-stemmed form looking full.
