A four-season evergreen that keeps things interesting: burgundy new growth in spring settles into green summer foliage, then lights up with fiery red, orange, and yellow flowers through fall and winter. Shade-tolerant and deer-resistant, it fits easily into foundation plantings, mixed borders, or containers wherever a splash of unexpected color is welcome. Its flexibility with both sun and shade makes it a good match for the varied light conditions found in most North Texas yards.
