Jason’s Plant of the Week – Indigo Flair Mahonia

Indigo Flair is a newer variety of mahonia, and an excellent plant for areas with shade to partial shade conditions (preferably morning sun, afternoon shade).   This compact evergreen has blue-green leaves that are a striking contrast to the bright yellow flowers that bloom in fall through winter, with its small blue berries adding an additional level of interest during the colder months.

Jason also appreciates that this shrub requires little maintenance since it reaches only 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, and grows naturally in a rounded shape. It is an excellent choice for an accent in containers, borders, or mass plantings. Plus, it’s deer tolerant!
