L’Rissa’s Plant of the Week-Bambina Pineapple Guava

L’Rissa is salivating over Bambina Pineapple Guava, a brand new 2019 introduction from the Southern Living Plant Collection. It’s our first time to carry this plant that features edible flowers and tropical fruit.

In the Spring, Bambina blooms gorgeous white flower petals with showy red accents which contrast nicely with the gray-green foliage.  The petals are edible and said to have a light sweet taste…a perfect addition to salads or tropical beverages.  Bambina produces bluish green egg-shaped fruits that ripen in late fall.  The creamy white center of the fruit has a distinctly tropical flavor with hints of pineapple and guava.

Bambina Pineapple Guava is a versatile, easy to grow shrub that is considered water-wise once established, and it attracts butterflies and birds.  This dwarf evergreen reaches only 3 to 4 feet tall and wide with a multiple, upright branching form that is easily trained as espalier, hedge or small specimen tree. It can also be grown successfully in a container.

Plant in well drained soil where it will get full sun to encourage maximum foliage, bloom, and fruit production.

Come on over and pick yours up today so you can be the first in your neighborhood to show off this pretty little Bambina!
