Nathan’s Plant of the Week – Blue Angel Althea

The explosion of flowers on the Blue Angel Althea stopped Nathan in his tracks this week. Lush and upright, it produces delicate blue blooms all summer long and can grow up to 6 feet tall and wide.  Plant this beauty in full sun, and don’t worry about hungry critters! The Blue Angel is rabbit resistant and isn’t a preferred dinner for deer either.  Like all Altheas, this deciduous shrub is heat and drought tolerant, very cold hardy, and thrives in a variety of soils.

Altheas (also known as Rose of Sharon) vary in size, color, and shape, and can be kept in shrub form or limbed up for an eye-catching ornamental tree. Be sure to check our  Inventory  for the many varieties we carry.
