Frankie’s Plant of the Week – Anthony Waterer Spirea

Frankie’s plant pick of the week is the compact and vivid Anthony Waterer Spirea. New reddish-purple leaves emerge in early spring and turn to emerald green, making a bright cheery backdrop for the numerous clusters of small, hot pink flowers. Growing to a height and width of 3 to 4 feet, Anthony Waterer Spirea will fit into almost any garden or landscape. Its versatile size is perfect for borders or hedges but can stand on its own as a beautiful specimen piece.

Because of its smaller size, very little pruning is needed to keep its shape. Plant this spirea in full sun (although it can tolerate some light shade) and don’t worry if your soil isn’t perfect; it’s adaptable. Butterflies love it, but it is unappealing to deer and other pests. Best of all, the Anthony Waterer Spirea is on sale for 50% off! The 3-gallon size is only $17.49, with an additional 10% being taken off this Thursday through Sunday (July 4-7) during our Sizzlin’ 4th of July sale!
